I also wanted to add... this isn't about showing off. Their is so many ways that a person can set up their home recording studio... I'm telling you my way because it works... that doesn't mean it's the Audio Law. It works... but it doesn't have to be that way. But I don't want to seem like I'm coming in here to own everything... I just wanted to see if anyone had any high end studio stuff..... is that a CRIME???? If you think I'm some snob-ass with a nice set up just remember I'm just like you guys... and I worked hard for everything I own. I came looking for a nice conversation.
So moving on... does Dave still us that Nueman KMS 105???

I was thinking about getting an m-audio firewire 410. I've started to do some midi and I do all of my editing in Cubase anyway so I need a way to go straight into a laptop. Any opinions on these? I'm worried about latency cause I tend to use a lot of tracks and effects. If I end up geting a desktop should I just get a nice sound card?

If you go FireWire, you'll have no latency, because of the way Firewire was developed (Firewire uses a constant stream to send data, while USB, which is known for its latency, sends things in big chunks whenever it gets enough data). I have an M-Audio Audiophile USB, and the quality is great for being such an inexpensive box. Assuming that the Firewire box is equal and/or better since it sheds latency and other issues, then I can only imagine that it's even better.
