FIRST EVER: DMBTABS.COM GUITAR CONTEST

Unread post by superman0710 » Tue Nov 19, 2002 6:56 pm

so far i've been kicking this around as an idea and i want to see how many of you are interested

so i'm gonna post the idea i have so far and some rules, you guys can add, and everyone who is interested just chime in so we can determine how many contestants we will have

RULES:
- participants MUST compose THEIR OWN cover song based on the determined song to be covered

- participants must be in possession of their own recording gear OR utilize gear in time to submit song for contest

- anyone not participating as a performer is urged to vote as a spectator and/or provide imput for surveys (i.e. - "which song do you think should be covered")

- songs will be judged by the observers based on their idea of (1) how well the song was covered (2) originality in covering song [ ex. - a nice little lick or addition that really made it stand out ] (3) vocals (if submitted) (4) solo-ing

- no formal point system will be created, the voters will just tally in their heads ( wow, that was a good cover - 10 points, but his solo was a little off or was too long or too loud, etc - 7 points: total 17 points. - you get the picture - )

- voters will listen to all songs and vote ( in poll form ) on who they think did the best rendition, the person with the most votes is the winner!

- if there are more contestants than can fit on one poll page, there will be a tournament system where multiple threads are created and the best player from each thread advances to the next round until the final round is reached ( although in this system EACH ROUND entails doing a DIFFERENT song to cover )

that's all i have so far, it seems like a good enough idea to me. So like i said, if you have any other rules you think might be good or wanna participate....chime in! 8)

EDIT, I added a POLL

we'll let the audience decide that ;) SO HOW ABOUT IT, NON-PERFORMERS, do you think the performer should get to choose his strong--suit, or conform to the pressure of the crowd? YOU DECIDE!

EDIT: SEE THE POLL AT THE TOP and VOTE! :)

hmm, that definitely puts a spin on it, but say I do want to sing, but my voice sucks but I can manage atleast a bit in a song with a key that fits my range, then what...wait, screw it...I'll just change the key of the song if need be and mess with y'all! WAH HA HA!!! I want to know my song now please!!!!! :D

yeah, like is there gonna be singing involved? and it would be cheating to do them as different tracks and combine them, as opposed to playing and singing solo. or is it just the guitar parts of the songs? or is it whatever that you want to do with the song? I'm just curious.

peace,
Ken
good, and you?

I don't think how close, creativity should be a part of this...dave's covers don't sound like the originals...why should ours?

in my opinion I think we should have all creative freedom to do whatever we want with it and if we do a good job, it'll show.
