Jimi Thing - The Best of What's Around Medley

Unread post by BlueWaters » Mon Jun 21, 2004 4:09 am

Well, I'm back from vacation obviously and from the showing of the votes, "The Best of What's Around" was the winner. For some reason though (I cannot, for the life of me, tell you now) I decided to mix it up with "Jimi Thing". I think part of it may be that I like "Jimi Thing" a lot, maybe the two songs relate in a way, I have no idea...

Anyway, this was the third or forth vocal take with the second guitar take just to give an idea of how much time I put into this. Obviously, I've found that every vocal take turns out better than the previous, but I stopped at three or four this time. I think it turned out pretty good, I don't LOVE it, but that's me. Tell me what you think... peace

I've got to tell you, I prefer your voice over 90% of the ones I've heard on here, but work on your breathing and finding those rests.

I like it a lot, though. It's cool.
Stay with me, safe and ignorant.

Dude great job but you should take voice lessons! Your voice is pretty freakin awesome as it is but with refinement you'd be doing really well. You have a bit of that Seal thing going on there too.

I wasn't too keen on the rendition of Jimi but you have a great voice and just need some pointers to make it better.

Great job :)

Wow - nice man, you have a really good voice. guitar was pretty much dead on, the begining of jimi thing sounds like you're ringing open string throughout it - its not like wrong, but its hard to hear the melody thru it.

BOWA sounds good, you're voice really makes both these awesome. keep em coming.

He is not any worse than any other poster here, and the people who claim he is just don't know what they're talking about. The demonization has gotten ridiculously out of hand.

I really dig the voice, BOWA parts sound good, and like chosta said, Jimi deffinatley has some bass strings ringing throughout and makes it hard to hear the higher parts of the song (or your not playing them) either case it could use a little work, but youve got the song down, just need to perfect it. I really enjoyed that though, good work.

Just out of curiousity what are you using for the guitar a pickup or Mic, if pickup what kind? Im currently experimenting which way is the best and I was just curious.

Im using an Ibanez Acoustic-Electric... I've found though that pluging straight in to the comp. or through an amp (I've tried that too) has too full of a sound for my recording purposes. With the last three songs I have played in front of a mic at about 6 inches away and the outcome is crisp and clear... good luck 26

P.S.- Thank you all for the support, I think I have really improved with all your comments so keep up the good work guys... peace

Nice work man, you've definately got a cool voice. But you know that already.

The one thing that you need to work on is your breathing.
You're gasping for air every few seconds and it actually got to a point where it got extremely annoying. Well, to me.
Try working on your breathe control and you'll be golden.

I think this has been mentioned already but jimi thing was a bit off. I would have another look at the tab for that one.

Really cool medley, I liked the transitions.
Very well done.

I thought some about "Jimi Thing" sounding off. I listened to the song and mine back and forth and noticed that the DMB version beats the hell out of mine mostly because it's with a full band...more specifically though, I think that dave plays the song on the treble side, but its ok cause the bass helps cover the low end. When I play it though I do play the 6th and 5th strings open. I think i started doing that cause I liked the sound, but it's not technically correct. I was thinking of adding a treble backup track but decided not to...I really just play it my own way i guess. Maybe after i cover everything else i know i'll go back and reteach myself.

I am looking into voice lessons though. A friend of mine is a hardcore dave fan...well lots of my friends are...but this one in particular teaches vocals and is all into music, but is not best with setting appointments. I'm really trying to improve though, thanks to you guys, so thanks again...peace

I am new to the board, but from what I have heard you are definetley the most talent thus far. Very impressed with the vocals on Jimi thing....I will give it an other glance later to check the whole thing out though. How come you can't listen to all the other songs on the website?

Great work, to say the least I am impressed, I know this b/c I am jealous!
Keep it up.

Angelfire.com only allows 20 MB of storage so I've been posting all the recordings I have done this summer. Most of the other stuff are old recordings that I want to redo, but I list them in case anyone would be interested. I have them all on my C: if you are interested, PM me.

Oh yeah, if you think I'm good, check out Miguel...He definitely has some talent...not as much as me, but you know, what can you do hahaha. Thanks for the comments...peace
