Recording Frustrations
Recording Frustrations
All-
I have no problem with how to record, etc, but I have a certain frustration and I was wondering how you do it.
When I record a song, I mic my guitar which means I cannot sing at the same time. Well, when I do that, I get lost without being able to sing. I get lost to when I am supposed to start a chorus, verse or bridge. How do you guys get around that?

Yeah, I always try the reading off the screen but I get so concerned with reading that my guitar playing goes substandard.AdamCU81 wrote:Put the lyrics on your computer screen or print them out, and try to follow along. Or if you need to, get a CD player and headphones, and play along with the song.

Hey Fraggle...
I know exactly what your going thru and this is what I do to help. Figure out before hand how many times to play each section. Lets say were going to record 41. The intro is:
Am7 Bm7 Em7 D X 4
So you write it down just like that and you just count the number of times you play until you get to 4, then go on to the verse....(i'm just making this up, but lets say the verse progression is play 8 times...so it would be just like the above only X 8. Just figure out your entire song before you play it, and just count how many times you play each section of the song. Let me know if this is really confusing, because it works really well if you know what I'm talking about.

I figured out what you should do.......First, move the mic back a bit. Play your song on guitar while your singing it out loud. Record that as your first track. For the second track, listen to your first track (with headphones on), and play guitar along with it. Then for the third track, mute the first track and sing along with the second track. Mix the second and third tracks and voila!

Amen to that...that is always what I have said...examples are All Along The Watchtower (Hendrix)...or even Dave's for that matter...he doesn'y feel the need to play it "spot on"; under the guides of Jason that would mean that Dave just just sucks and can't play it like Hendrix so he settles for a lesser "interpretation" of it...lol...well anywho, just my 2 cents...fraggle wrote:A cover is YOUR interpretation of a song. If I wanted to listen or have someone listen to an exact version of a song, I would hand them a dmb cd.DMB=ice wrote:Isn't that the point of a cover?
