Bowlegged Ants

Unread post by eliot1171 » Tue Jul 28, 2009 9:07 pm

Here is a little diddy that my Grandpa used to say to us. Its essentially just a really goofy story, but I put some music to it that I feel fits the overall mood of the rhyme. Here are the lyrics and a link.

Ladies and gentlemen, hobos and tramps;
Cross-eyed mosquitoes and bowlegged ants;
I come here before you, directly behind you;
To tell you a story, I know nothing about

This Thursday which is Good Friday, there will be a convention;
In the women’s club, which is strictly for men;
Admission is free so pay at the door;
Pull up a chair, and sit on the floor

It was a cold summer day in winter;
The snow was raining fast;
As a barefooted boy with shoes on;
Stood sitting in the grass

It was a bright sunny day, in the dead of night;
Two dead boys got up to fight;
Three blind men to see fair play;
Forty four minutes to yell hooray

Back to back, they faced each other,
Drew their swords, and shot each other;
A deaf policeman, heard the noise;
And came and arrested those two dead boys

My old babysitter used to tell me this rhyme. I haven't seen that in probably 15 years.

That said, I enjoyed it. I think the waltz feel was a good call, the guitar work is simple yet effective and well played. Vocal melody complements the guitar well. Glad I stopped in here to check it out.

I was trying to give it a creepy/carnival sound. Took me a good three months and two phone calls to my Mom and uncle to get the lyrics to any sort of accuracy. Thanks for taking a listen.

They make a poison for snails, been a few years since I needed it. For ants, try Terro liquid ant bait. I used it to get rid of infestation of Crazy Ants in my kitchen, the little SOBs are tough to get rid of.
