New Song I Wrote

Unread post by DMBand2step » Thu Mar 04, 2004 10:37 am

I just wrote this new song. I wrote my first one a few weeks ago and put it up in this forum and the response was mostly positive, so I decided to try again. Keep in mind I'm still a beginner, only been playin for a year or so. So, tell me if I suck or not.

Haha, yea I guess it does sound a little like #41. Its weird though, the chords arent even close to #41's. Theyre like the standard D to Am7 to C with a little variation. Well, maybe I should just scrap this one. Tell me what you think.

the strum pattern is almost the same to me, though i only listened to it once

the chords for #41 (as i play it with regular chords sometimes) are Am7 Bm7 Em7 D and then G D/F# Cmaj7

i'd scrap it unless you could make it less #41ish. the chorus sounds pretty close to being the same. the verse part sounds the same if only just different notes. same idea, too, bass line, strum strum. just sounds mixed up. the only thing that didn't make it sound like #41 was the intro.

I think the only major similarity, just listening to it regardless of the chords is the sturmming pattern....but hey it's all been done. I think you shouldn't scrap it, just as long as the vocals of the song do not sound simliar to #41

Hey... don't scap this... it's a good start. Keep in mind that you're posting this on a Dave Matthews board, so forum members will be keen to draw similarities between your song and a Dave Matthews tune. If you played that song for the 'general public', you wouldn't get that response.

Depending on your melody and vocals, this song may end up being completely non-DMB like, even to the ear of folks on this board. My advice is to keep working on it.

Its hard not to write something the sounds Dave Matthewsish since he's my biggest influence. Behind him, is Jack J and John Mayer. Thats not going to change my style too much.

I don't think it sounds anything like 41, maybe a bass note or two, but the rhythm isn't the same the feel isn't the same. But imo, the defining factor depends on the vocal melody.

the rhythm pattern is exactly the same bro...
its a nice cover, i like it, it just reminds me WAAAAY too much of #41... even if no one said that I still would think so, I have been playing that song all the time recently and it definitely reminded me of it
