I've decided on the Shure sm57 as my microphone - I know a lot of people use this specifically for acoustic guitar recording, and although not the best out there, I think it would be a significant improvement over my current one.
My questions come in regards to the cables and adapters I will need to complete this setup... I am recording direclty into my PC, meaning that the end connection of my setup need be a male 1/8" headphone jack.
I'm assuming the less adapters i use betwen the mic connection and the PC connection, the better the sound quality is maintained, correct??
Ok questions...
1. Do they make XLR-1/8" microphone cables?? I've come across a number of XLR-1/4" cables, but wasnt sure if they made the jump in one cable from XLR-1/8"? Is there any dissadvantages to using a cable with such a drastic connection change?
I did come across this, however...

This is XLR-1/8", but I wasn't sure if it is intended to be used as an adapting cable or a direct connection?? Would it be possible to use just this type of cable for my setup, which would eliminate the need for any adapters!?!?
2. If for whatever reason it is advised that I do not use that XLR-1/8" cable, what if I use an XLR-1/4" cable with a 1/4"-1/8" adapter?? Any sound quality decrease in this setup? Or is there a better option than this.
My apologies if some of my questions are fundamental and confusing, but I really need some input from those who know some recording basics. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!
thanks in advance,
Jonny
