So Damn Lucky?
Hey guys,
I've been trying to learn how to play So Damn Lucky, but have had trouble in the past. Here is a link to a short video of me playing the verse.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZjhDvNvag4
I was wondering if you guys could help out. I feel like I'm playing it right but somethings is telling me its not right. Could any of you watch it and let me know if it sounds right?
My guitar playing isn't that great cause I have haven't been playing all that long. I'm not going for the quality yet. I'm just curious if I'm even playing it right not. If it doesn't sound right what am I doing wrong? I would love to finally finish learning this song so hopefully it is ok. Thanks in advanced guys.

Re: So Damn Lucky?
Hey man, You are playing the notes right if thats what you are looking for. However you're strumming too fast and your timing is off on the hammer ons. Try to watch Dave play it solo on you tube. The very first video in the related videos section of your own video should help you alot. I can try to post a clip of myself playing it if you would like or someone else here could probably do it if you are interested. But its really just all timing, going back and listening to dave play it, and playing along with the song that will help you the most. It doesn't sound bad man. Keep working on it. Don't hesitate to ask if you have specific questions, there are alot of people around here who can help you out. I hope that was somewhat helpful

Re: So Damn Lucky?
Thanks dude...yea you answered my question. I've bee experimenting a lot with timing and strumming and i've watched endless amounts of videos. Its not an easy song to play. ut4ever8, if you could post a video that would be awesome. I just need a clear video of someone playing it. It's hard to tell from the videos on youtube cause its always live videos of dave so its hard to see both his fretting hand and strumming had at the same time and if you can its not clear. So a video of someone playing it or even explaining it would be great. Strumming is always the hardest thing for me so a lot of the song i try and play either don't sound right or sound wrong.
Also in the video I made mistakes. Sometimes I put double hammers-ons where they don't need to be. I realized this after watching the video. Sorry for any of the mistakes.
Any other help would be great. Thanks again.

No need to apologize for any mistakes man. No one here will rip you apart for the most part if your honestly looking for help. I'll do my best to help you out. I don't have a video camera though. but I can record it a few times in different speeds and that should help you just as much as a video since it seems your fingers are positioned fine. I think once you listen to it enough times you can hear the differences in the up and down strokes. I started out playing using the tabs on this site and they helped me out a ton, it is very accurate. But now that Im not playing a ton of DMB anymore I've been learning on my own by ear for the most part. And the one thing that has always helped me the most in learning odd strum patterns was listening to the song a few times with headphones on and really concentrating on the different sounds of the strumming. Its a pain in the ass but you will get the hang of it. You're pretty close. And if you dont think a sound clip will help you out its no big deal. Someone may be able to make a video for you

ut4ever8...is there anyway that you could still record you playing it at different speeds? I think if i heard it slowed down it would help a lot! let me know and thats for your help so far

No they are not the same. They are similar, but different I think. Its hard to say without a guitar in front of me at the moment, when I get back to Lexington I can tell you for sure, but Im pretty sure they are fairly different

yeah your just a little baby in those. Those were the only videos I had ever seen you until recently, it was really weird to look at your myspace at first and see you all grown up.
