Hi guys,
I just want to say that this forum is the best. You all are very knowledgeable and kind to those who need help. I was just wondering on where I should begin in my journey to teach myself guitar. I have most of the major and some minor chords down. I have a little trouble with bar chords, but I guess what I'm trying to get at is what is an easy song for me to learn being a knewbie and all. I know this is kinda off topic but I find myself coming to this forum more than any of the others.
Thanks,
Squall2811

Thanks for the response, anymore suggestions you guys?
Hey, welcome to the boards!
I'm a beginner guitarist myself, been learning for the past month or so.
You said you've got most of the major and minor chords down, but thats quite simple really. Man, the tough part when you're learning are the GODDAMN progressions! Try moving QUICKLY from, say, Amaj to Dmaj to Gmaj. That's gonna take a lot of practice to nail, but trust me, if you love music enough (and by music I mean not JUST dave) you'll never give up until you get it!
If you want a few easy songs to play, try these (forget DMB songs for now, they're quite tough for pure beginners like us
)
America - Horse With No Name (old song, but VERY easy. Two chords only, very basic strumming pattern. Download the song if you don't have it, and do a google for the tabs)
John Denver - Leaving On A Jetplane (old song as well, classic. 3 chords only)
Pink Floyd - Is There Anybody Out There (amazing song, no strumming, just fingerpicking. VERY beautiful if you can nail it perfectly
)
A good site for guitar resources (beginner and otherwise) is http://guitar.about.com
PM me with your MSN Messenger address, we can keep tabs on each other's progress.
Good luck, and remember, no matter how much your fingers KILL YOU, don't ever quit
No pain, no gain!
