Does anyone want to make it as a guitarist?
Hey guys, I'm new to the forum so I appoligize if this has came up before. But I'm wondering if any of you guys have a desire to become a professional, either through a band or even an instructor or something along that line? Personally playing guitar has become a true passion to me recently and frankly I think I would be very happy if I made it into a fairly popular band, popular enough to tour alot and make at least a decent living? I'm sure lots of folks have the dream but do any of you take steps to get there?
I guess I should tell you a bit about myself... I'm a senior in HS and have been playing four years, but only the past year or so very seriously. I usually end up playing mostly improv and my own songs when I sit down and play, though I have mustered the courage to learn some of the "rights of passage" songs (the stone, stream, layla, classical gas, wish you were here, babe im gonna leave you ext for acoustic/ one sad but true, hotel california and the like for electric.
Anyway, enough blabbering, this seems like a great forum and I hope to learn alot. oh yeah, I play a D-18, OM-28v, and an American dlx. strat...

i dont want to become famous or anytihng like that. I just want to get good enough to play like bars and small places with my band.
My ultimate goal right now, is too get good enough to play a free stage at Summergest in Milwaukee. And i dont even mean like playing right before one of the big bands, i'd be happy playing at like noon when no one is there.

Yep, I really wanna make it, I have since the day I started. I dont mean being on mtv and being famous, or anything like that, I just want to play music all the time and tour from town to town just to see places and bring music too people. I've been playing for about 6-7(?) years now, but I havent done anything until this last year to prepare for something like that. I made a little demo at home, starting to play more gigs, getting a little local following, a little college radio play, but Im still not doing too much. I want to do more, but I think it will just have to be a steady climb for a while. Some people want to, some dont, i dont know why, but its cool either way-

As far as i go, I have no real aspriations of making it in the music business. I would like to play small shows and possibly be in a band, but nothing too major. Just something to help pass the time

I have severe stage fright so that pretty much cuts me out of it right there. I can't handle any sort of lime light. It's depressing too because there's a point where you get good enough that you want to share what you do but you can't. It sucks.
I don't take critisism very well either and that just fuels the fire.
If I had the balls to perform at coffee houses I would in a second.

I used to be really really afraid of getting onstage, to the point where I got sick, but It goes away. Anyways you are more than good enough to play at a coffeehouse.

Thanks!
I know it comes down to just biting the bullet and getting up there but I'm not looking forward to it. I get so nervous that it affects my playing and thats really tough to deal with. How long did it take you to get over your stage fright?
Btw with your outlook on music, not to mention your talent, I'm sure you'll take it as far as you want. Maybe even further.

Go to an open mic, and wait untill someone worse than you goes on stage. If you go on after that person you will feel so much confidence...i swear. I know thats kinda a rotten thing to do, but you know you are better than them, and the audiences are pretty nice at open mics.
Also whenever I get that nervous feeling, it tends to go away about 1 minute into your first song, and then you feel great-
I guess you just gotta feel confident in your playing and relize that you need to do it-
i still cant give speeches for the life of me in college, so ive only been able to get over playing music in front of people, oh well.
