Ever play any hip-hop songs on guitar?

Unread post by VTDreaminwithDMB » Fri Jan 30, 2004 4:47 pm

Just a question to see if anyone ever plays any hip-hop on their guitars.
I ask because the other night some friends came over and I was sittin around playin the guitar so I busted out with Hey Ya by Outkast just for laughs and everyone thought it was hilarious. Hey Ya was in Guitar World Acoustic issue with Dave on the cover.

I just talked about Scratchtrack in another post they are the shit they have two vocalist and one acoustic guitarist and they play all kinds of hiphop and rap. What makes them so great is that the vocalist switch back between each other one singing/rapping and the other b-boppin and playing the drums and making record scratch effects with his mouth and the guitarist is bad real bad. Like Timmy Reynolds gone hip hop
people stare and we just ingnore them and they go away go away go away

Can anyone post just a small part of Hey Ya? I just can't get the strumming down well and it always helps me to hear it the way other people do.

Thanks,

Its Em fools. :)

The trouble with translating most rap songs to the guitar is that the melodies are about 3-4 seconds long, looped over and over.

It's key of G if I am not mistaken, which means Em. I swear E sounds better though.
