Need Help With Taylor!!!

Unread post by matttherevelator41 » Wed Jan 21, 2004 2:12 am

Can anyone help me out with this part of the intro to Taylor by Jack Johnson?

e|--------X--------------------X---------------------------X-----X--|
B|--------X--------------------X---------------------------X--4--X--|
G|--------X--------------------X---------------------------X--2--X--|
D|--------X--------------------X--3-3/5-5-3p0-2p0----------X--3--X--|
A|--------X----1---1---1--1-3--X------------------3p0------X--3--X--|
E|-0-1-1--X-1h3-1h3-1h3-1------X----------------------1-1--X-----X--|

Any thing that will help would be great cuz I just can't get it down.
thanks

I barr the 1st fret on the A and E strings with my index finger and keep it there. I pick the E string with a downstroke followed by a hammer on the 3rd fret with my ring finger......then pick the A string (remember it is barred at the 1st fret) with an upstroke.

Do it slowly for a while to practice and then eventually you will get the speed.

Does that make sense?

thats how i do it but i usually use my pinky, when i try the ring finger my barre chord usually slips...

the key on that part is to get a clean hammer on and off only the E without touching the A, and then just some alternate picking- its gotta be a clean hammer though or you'll never get the A string to ring out correctly and it'll muck up the whole section

I use an upstroke for the E string and a down stroke for A. I barr the first fret with my index and use my ring finger for the hammer on. hope it helps
