Dmaj9

im learning a song with that chord, a d major 9th, the only fingering i can find for it is up at like the 9th fret and the song has a capo 4. any other way i can play it?

Well you could tune to D A C# E A E and put a capo on the 4th fret and play 000000

Or play it like so x1021x

that still doesnt sound right, i just play a dsus and it kinda works, the song is the promise by tracy chapman if anyone knows it

well, what dusty showed you is a Dmaj9, a sus2 sounds similar because they both have the 2

Is Dmaj9 the chord that sounds, or is it the shape that you play? If it's the shape, play x411111. I think that's a Damj9-- fatjack?

capo 4, the progression is a, a/g#, dmaj9, a/e

i just wanted to add my two cents and say that i really hate it when a song puts the chords "relative to the capo". so confusing to write second guitar parts and to solo around.

give me the actual name. i don't want that stinking relative crap.

I just realized how ridiculously stupid I am. I wrote the fingering to DMaj9 instead of the frets. I even amaze my own idiot self sometimes. What I meant was: x52222.
