yeah, those four chords definitely wouldn't fit in C. the D and A would have to be minor

The easiest way that I found to figure out what chords go into key come form taking a scale, let us say C in this instance, and dissecting it. This helps you remember it better. You could just remember in a major scale that the 1st, 4th and 5th (I, IV, V) are major chords. 2nd, 3rd, and 6th are minor (ii, iii, vi). The 7th is a dim (vii*). If you wanna know the theory behind it do the following.

C D E F G A B C D E F G.....

Take the scale at hand (This works for Majors n Minors...duno about everything else). Then play the 1st, 3rd and 5th notes of the root. This is C-E-G (C major chord). Move to the 2nd note of the scale and then taking that as the 1st, find the 3rd and the 5th note from that bass note(with a C major scale D is the next note, so it's: D-F-A, a Dm chord). Then continue on with E and F ad nauseum until you reach C again.

Hopefully this is useful to someone and they understand what the heck I am trying to say. If you don't understand it post something, IM me, or PM me.

peace
