Putting It All Together

I'm at the point where I can play the parts of several songs but I can't put them together. Anyone have any tips?

keep playing. i was the same way until i had all the pieces and they just fit together. once you think you have all the pieces try playing along with the song playing and then move onto playing the song all the way without the song playing and you have it.

What I usually do after figuring out all the parts separately is to do focused practise on just the transitions (either between different parts or looping back to the beginning of the same part depending on what happens). Play the last few notes of the first section and the first few notes of the following section, stop, repeat ad nauseum. Skip the stuff that you can already play well and focus on the tougher stuff.

That's if you want to practise efficiently but often I want to blow a whole afternoon on the guitar so I'll keep playing the whole song over and over again.

i just sit down with the CD and slowgold and hammer it out. if you have all of the parts down putting together will be a breeze. check kazaa for programs that'll slow down music you can get them for free.
