does anyone else have this problem?

when i fret a bass note with my thumb, and i end up moving that chord formation around, i scrape my thumb along the top of my frets and it kills after a while. anyone else have this problem? i've been playing love soon and man on the side a lot lately, and mayer uses that damn thumb a lot, but ow. :-( i need a callous

actualy, mayer seems to have quite long fingers. So using the thumb for the low E would be easier for him. Other than a D chord or so, I don't do that much at all.

yeah i have short stubby german workhorse fingers so i don't have the luxury of doing the whole thumb thing. but on the same note, i just fret stuff the "right" way and use fingers.

you can file the ends of the frets if they are hurting that bad. they shouldn't be sticking out enough to catch your hand.
