Yeah, you can play those chords (they show up in a lot of Daves songs) open to get a fuller sound.

that's what he does. But I don't think he's playing Grey Street that way. On the 12-string, you don't really need the open D.

You're probably right , but on a 6 string its a good idea to leave it open for the extra sound , atleast thats what i do :)

Are you sure its in Bm? It doesn't sound like it.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

is that fair? D and Bm have te same notes in their scales, but they create different feelings. what's the point of having modes if people just dismiss them?

It's like speaking: two people can say the exact same words, one will be happy, one sad. Minor keys are the sad people. The keys may contain the same notes, but are different in their sound, the way the notes go makes it either happy or sad.

This makes sense to me, may not to anyone else. :)

i've said it before and i will say it again: when you are looking at just the key of the song, its the same thing. but when you play the scales they are different. a mode is something completely different from the key. so by saying "that song is in Bm" or "no it's in D" just reinforces the awful idea that you are restricted to playing just one scale or mode throughout the entire song.

I would say that minor keys are sad, they are more....mysterious, darker. Some can be dead sexy.
