Koa Martin question..

Unread post by 4monthguitarplayer » Thu Dec 04, 2003 9:21 pm

I went to guitar center tonight and played a Koa DX1. Here is the link to it http://www.martinguitar.com/guitars/cho ... g=l&m=DXK2

the wood says that it is Koa Wood Pattern HPL Textured Finish. Is that real Koa, or a laminate that looks like Koa, or what? The guitar sounded awesome to me and I was thinking about it being a good guitar to get. Thanks for any help with the Koa stuff. I sometimes dont understand it all

if it doesnt say solid then its laminate. that applies for pretty much all guitar brands.

Its not actualy real Koa wood. Its not even real Koa veneer. Its some sorta textured and colored synthetic material. Its not wood at all I dont think. Iv looked at these too. You can get WAAAAAYYYYY nicer guitars for that kinda cash. Did you check out Seagull..........

Good choice. You could probably get a decent ovation for that price. Ovations are person-specific though. Some like them, some don't...

Yeah, I've heard. You could probably either lower the bridge or put extra lights on them. I did that once and it works itself in...

yes, but then you'd be playing extra lights, and those sound like shit
