bit of a problem...

Unread post by tbillie41 » Mon Dec 01, 2003 7:13 pm

a couple hours ago, i pu tsome new strings on, and was did the usual tune, stretch, tune, play some, stretch, tune, lather rinse repeat. i played for about an hour and was stretching the strings one last time and the peg holding the low E in place started to pop out. "musta done something a little wrong with that string" i thought, and re-strung it, but it keeps happening. i've re-strung only twice before and this has never happened? any ideas what happened, if it's something bad and what i can do to fix it? thanks.

You might have bought heavier guage strings. The extra tension could be pulling that pin out.

no problem at all...

how far out is it?

you can just push it back in with a little force...

maybe look into getting new pegs?

nah, same strings .53-.12 elixir polyweb lights. (they rule imho).

the peg doesn't come out very much. i did push it a little ways back in and it worked loose again and made a popping noise as it did so. i've only had the guitar since may, and i'm still a bit nervous about being "rough" with it. I'll go push on it a bit more, and see about getting new pegs.

its probably either a worn pin, or maybe youre just not seating the ball end correctly?

make sure the ball on the end of the string is going up beside the pin and not on the bottom of it. if you can get the ball beside the pin (in between the pin and wood) then it locks itself in.

thats what I am thinking here...if it keeps coming out, then that is a very viable answer...

you could de-tune it enough to pull the string out and re-set it

well, i reseated the ball end of the string and made sure it was in, and that seems to have solved things.

thanks guys... :)

what? he said he's only restrung twice. i made the same mistake when i first started and my peg went flying across the room. i thought it was valid point.

I never let the ball above the bottom of the pin...I let the knotted part...just not the ball itself...never knew that is what you were "supposta" do...

:s meaning, "are you sure?"
