I woulda picked the D35, but I have never played a Martin that I really liked. I played a Taylor 814 that was so loud and full. That is the reason why I picked the Taylor over the Martin. Just get Medium strings if you want it to not be so bright sounding.

I love you oh so well, like a kid loves candy and fresh snow.

You want a grand auditorium acoustic with a cutaway and electronics or a regular dreadnought? Those are two very different guitars youre considering there.

How old are you? 16? Wow...I'm half jealous, and half disgusted. If that makes sense.
The 914 is really unnecessary. But since youre getting this kind of guitar at this age, I'm guessing money isnt an issue for you. Either way, you'll get the same sound/playability out of an 814, minus the frills. And for a lot less.
I'd highly recommend looking at both an HD-28V, as was mentioned, and also a Taylor 810. Its got the trademark playability of a taylor, and the recent revoicing of their dreads gives them a nicer low end (though still not a Martin.) If it was me, and I was buying a dred,* there wouldnt be a question which brand I'd go. But thats me.
Either way, youre really talking about two very different guitars that are designed for different things. Figure out what you want, and play the hell out of each one.

I'm glad someone picked that up.jsgksu wrote:You want a grand auditorium acoustic with a cutaway and electronics or a regular dreadnought? Those are two very different guitars youre considering there.
Those two guitars are not even a comparison. There are both gonna have completely different sounds. Btw How long have you been playing? Is it just me or wouldn't it be over the top for a sixteen year old to have either of these guitars. Just because you can get it doesn't mean you should. The 800 series taylors are almost identical sounding to the 900. The only difference is the appointments. Do you really need to spend another thousand for this? Have you thought about spending less on the guitar and investing in some recording gear, if you don't have any already that is. Ultimately it's about making music and I just don't get that vibe from people who covet the biggest and the best.

umm... the 800s have a different topwood than the 900s. 800 has sitka which is suitable for strumming and some fingerpicking while englemann (900) is more suitable for fingerpicking.

Scroll down and read the descripton of the 900. I'm not sayin they sound exactly the same I'm just thinking if it's worth the extra dough. I really don't want to come off as an asshole if I havent already. It just doesn't sound like an informed choice. I plan on spending a good chunk of money on a high end acoustic and you can bet I'll put a lot of time and effort into my decision.

I'll bet $100 you wouldnt be able to tell which is which if I blindfolded you.shane wrote:umm... the 800s have a different topwood than the 900s. 800 has sitka which is suitable for strumming and some fingerpicking while englemann (900) is more suitable for fingerpicking.
