use coated strings, otherwise you'll just have to live with itSgtM wrote:How do I silence this? Sounds like a needle scraching a damn record!
I'm Josh: sometimes known as Steve
Kewl.. Actually, the strings I'm using (Martin's) are getting pretty old. I'll be changing them soon. Thinking about giving D'addario a try and maybe Dean Markley's..

elixers are bad. to bright and harsh. Martins are full and last. The way most artists get rid of the sound is through machines. Dave does this, I believel. Timmy, on the other hand, you can listen to his albums, and hear all the squeaking. It's a nutral part of playing strings that are wound. The only sure thing I have found that gets rid of it the most with just strings is flatwire strings. But, I havn't seen them for acoustic, I know gibson makes them for electrics. They are wound so tightly there is barely any grooves, but the frictions to keep your fingers there is gone. I saw, you have to deal with the squeaking, unless you can get flat wires or expensive effects to get rid of it. I personaly have no problem with squeaking.
Yes, I am in a box

Yeah, that's what I have on right now. I'm gonna give something else a try for a while, to see what I like best. I haven't been playing for long, so I'm still feeling things out. I have a friend who swears by Elixir's, and another who swears by D'addario. I like the Martin's so far (got 2 packs of them from my parents when they bought the guitar for me), but I like variety. I'm playing on a Yamaha that's about 30 years old. Don't know the model or anything. IMO, It's got a really good sound to it for being a cheapie. Don't have any recording equipment or I would post a little sample.borocks wrote:I have got the Martin SP light, they're reallly great, the best I've ever had I think. Try these..

That's more what I'm looking for.. I've noticed the Martins have such a bright sound. My high E string sounds like Dizzy or Maynard overblowing their upper reigster..DMBFan63 wrote: D'addario EJ16's and they sound so much better.. full bassy sound..
