What guitar should I buy?

Unread post by Steve-O » Thu Oct 30, 2003 1:07 pm

In the next month or so I'm planning to buy a Taylor 314ce. I just wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions for other guitars in that price range. Also, if anyone has the 314ce what do you think of it?

Your not too far from the HD-28 range and that is a kick a guitar. The Martins for the 1000 to 1600 range sound better to me than the Taylors do but its all personal preference.

Taylors have a more high pitched sound which is why dave uses them to cut through the bands accompinament (sp)

Martins have more of a punch to them and are better for the muting rhythm style playng that I do since Im not in a band

Like I said though its all pesonal preference. My friend has a 312ce and plays with med. poly elixirs. I have a d-15 and play with Xlight EXPs and yet we still play together all the time and both tones are good its just all what you prefer.

The best way to decide is drive to the closest big city and play, play, play til they kick you out of the store. Play everthing you can get your hands on and then decide. Also bring a friend along so they can play the guitar and let you hear how it sounds out in front of it.
If your friend is already dead, and being eaten by vultures, I think it's okay to feed some bits of your friend to one of the vultures, to teach him to do some tricks. But ONLY if you're serious about adopting the vulture.

I would consider the hd-28. I've played it and I do like it but its too expensive for me. The sale price at the Guitar Center is over 2000. For the money, i'm having a hard time finding anything better than the Taylor.

An hd-28 is one hell of a guitar....they run about 1500 if you buy online

Just a note...martins-great for just acoustic, but become kinda lost when with a band

Taylors...great electronics...great for when trying to play over other instruments....

Look at a takamine...they have great tone in that price range (and even lower,) especially when plugged in. I dont know if you'll like it better than the taylor, but I've seen several people who have a G to spend who end up liking an $800 tak better than any entry level taylor or martin. Theyre worth checking out.

I bought the 314ce today for 1299. I'm happy with it and i think i made the right desicion but i have one question. The guy brought the guitar out from the back in a gig bag and then went to find a hard shell case when i said i wanted to buy it. My question is how snug should the guitar fit in the case. It wont slide in. You have to put alittle preasure on it so it sinks down into the case. Is that the way it should be?

Congrats on the new guitar.

As for the case, it should be snug. The guitar should NOT be able to move and rattle around. However, if there is too much pressure need to insert the guitar, perhaps you should go back and make sure they gave you the correct case.

Enjoy the new box, and box for the box.

Congrats, I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have enjoyed mine.

My 314ce is fits very snug in the case...you have push it a bit to get it in.
