singing/playing question

Unread post by Granny33 » Sun Oct 26, 2003 8:28 pm

is it a bad idea to learn to sing and play songs by listening to the cd and playing/singing along with them. i've struggled but im doing this with grey street and its pretty easy. (although it is grey street) any comments?

I cant see why that would be a bad idea at all, as long as its helping you then keep it up. Thats how I learn/play songs a lot of the time and I dont know how it could hinder your learning at all.

ok... playi9ng with a cd is probably not that bad, but as soon as you get the song down, dont play with the cd too much anymore

as far as singing with it...do it only to get lyrics/rythems/notes memorized
anything beyond that will only boost your false confidence
just try singing with the cd.. and then try singing with only you playing... if you havent done this before, you will suck terribly, guareenteed

so you need to work on singing mostly just with yuou playing the guitar

find some jamming buddies

I think recording is far and away the best way to improve. When your singing along you could be in key but there's no way of knowing cause you cant hear yourself.

I agree, this is the best/fastest way to learn and see improvements...but listening to the cd can't hurt either

that's how i learned most of the songs...helps with the timing and all.

but be warned...don't sing and play with a DMB CD and then think you can immediately do it all alone cause you will get a big surprise. :? i know i did.
"Forget about what you are escaping from," he said, quoting an old maxim of Kornblum's. "Reserve your anxiety for what you are escaping to."
