who do you prefer?
(from the point of view of the guitar skills, songs, lyrics, voice - not person...

Mayer wins hands down with chops, but everything else (including personality) is a landslide with Harper.
Truth be told, if you switched out John Mayer with Dave Matthews, I would still vote Harper.

I think harper is a better guitarist. He keeps his playing really simple for the albums, but really expands it live. I would much rather listen to him!

well harper doesn't suck so this is pretty easy...
"Forget about what you are escaping from," he said, quoting an old maxim of Kornblum's. "Reserve your anxiety for what you are escaping to."

theres no way mayer could ever own harper at all. how about the fact that harper probley can play any instrument he wants to since he grew up in a music store all his life, and mayer really only knows the guitar maybe a couple others like the piano or something but still don't hold nothing on harper.

harper's cool, but he's not half the musician mayer is, he writes a good song here and there but it's simple, basic stuff...mayer's got the goods whether you like his lyrics or not.

no way dude, mayer smokes harper in musicianship...mayer is an amazing MUSICIAN! he understands music like no other...you could stick any instrument in his hand and he'd have a good idea of what to do with it. just b/c you only see him playing guitar doesn't mean he only knows guitar. he knows his theory long and well and it shows a lot more than w/ harper.

I respect everything everyone has said on this topic...but I dunno, if I had to choose, I would go with Ben Harper. I've got a funny feeling John Mayer is going to turn in to one of those "Top 40" artists.
