Alternate tunings (this is the readable one!)

Unread post by ticohans » Wed Dec 11, 2002 11:50 am

Oh, I love alternate tunings and just found one last night. Who knows how much it's used. I was just messing around and said, hey, this would be a whole lot easier and better sounding if I changed this string here. And, then I could do this. And, ah ha, now lower this one and... ta da, a great tuning. Here it is: D A E G A E
Some of the important chord formations, at least what I've discovered:
A:-0-A5:-0---D:-2--Dsus2:-0---E:-0--Esus4:-0-F#m7:-0-E/G#sus4:-0
----0------0------0-----------0-------2----------0----------0--------------0
----6------2------2-----------2-------1----------1----------2--------------4
----0------0------2-----------0-------0----------0----------0--------------0
----0------0------0-----------0-------2----------x----------x--------------x
----7------x------0-----------0-------2----------2----------4--------------6

Bm7sus4:-0---If you've looked at these chord formations carefully, you'll
------------0---see that you can slide the basic shape of the Esus4 and
------------7---F#m7 up and down the neck to get different chords with
------------0---loads of suspensions
------------x
------------9
There's a ton more that you can do with this, and if I posted everything I've tried, it would take me the next fifty years to put it down, but this should give you a good start with this tuning. It really has a beautiful, warm, low end, and is quite resonant, especially if you have a warmer, darker guitar like mine.
