A $45,000 Martin...is it worth it?

Unread post by PlayLikeDave » Tue Oct 14, 2003 10:36 am

Have any of you seen the Martin D-50 Koa Deluxe? I came across it when one of my friends was talking about a $25,000 Martin that I thought was kinda ugly (the "00-45S 1902"). But this D-50 is sick. Seriously digusting. I cannot find a need for that much fret inlay. And the Koa wood is...aaaaaggggghhhhhh ::drools on self::

Check it out http://www.martinguitar.com/guitars/cho ... a%20Deluxe

peace
I love you oh so well, like a kid loves candy and fresh snow.

No guitar is worth that much. It's just eye candy for collectors.

Btw, the D-50 K2 deluxe lists at $47500 and the D-50 deluxe doesn't have a price listed; but I remember seeing that it was a about 50 grand in Martin's newsletter (I think it's called the Sounding Board). More expensive than the koa because it's made of Brazilian rosewood.

that's a guitar for the rich guitar nut to hang on his wall, it's not a player and ultimately not supposed to be a player...it's a work of art. you should see the $350,000 peacock guitar they made...I played it... 8)

Now I'd consider myself a fiscal conservative...but I have to say there's something wrong with the world when someone can buy a $45,000 guitar and someone else doesnt eat for three days.

definitely. i'm pretty damn happy that i was able to get enough money for my 1600 Taylor. :? anyway, i hate the look of too much inlay. it makes the guitar look uglier, imo.

would you like a guitar to go with that abalone?

why would you ruin such a beautiful piece of koa by putting so much on there... i mean, ive seen better koa, but that is pretty. not only is that guitar not worth.. id say..... 1/5 of that, but thats just too gaudy.

if anyone buys that guitar than theyre probably not a guitarist.. probably just some loser who wants it to hang on his wall.

anti-malthusians unite.

you know, it's not even a pretty guitar. i would have expected something awesome. just because something is intricate (sp?) doesn't mean it's pretty. i wonder how many 50,000 + guitars they sell in a year.
