Playing songs in different tunings...

Unread post by Jonny123 » Fri Sep 26, 2003 3:08 pm

Doesn't it frustrate anyone else, when you really want to play some song you remembered you knew, then realized you have to tune the bejesus out of your guitar to even begin??? And not to mention I'm alwayts so weary of my strings when I get on multiple tuning kicks... I love nick drake, and love playing his songs, for instance, but he uses 6-7 different tunings.

Doesn't this weaken the strings quicker? Any one have any suggestions to a particular string if one will be playing around with tuning alot??

You could have 6 or 7 guitars all tuned differently. That's what the pros do, but obviously it that might get kind of costly.

I change the tuning of my guitar a couple times everyday, and it really dosnt effect it, as long as you arent putting too much tension(way too little tension can be bad also). Also you can make good use of a capo to not change the tuning to drastically.

I kept tuning mine into drop D, tuned it up an entire step, and G-tuning. My strings died today. They play horribly, and the G has separations in the bronze from being too stressed.

Tuning is a mean thing to do...BUT LOTS OF FUN!!
