my guitar is buzzing - any help?

Unread post by RyanPollice » Wed Sep 24, 2003 11:16 am

so my 514ce is buzzing, it likes to do this. fucking thing is somewhat of a hassle. i've checked the taylorguitars.com tech sheets, and its not the strings, the saddle, or the tuning pegs, or the jack. the taylor site lists a dryed out guitar as maybe being the problem, but my guitar has been in 40 - 65 % RH for quite some time. the top may be sunken but im not really sure. The buzzing is coming from the inside of the body somewhere. could this possibly be the wires inside the guitar's body vibrating against the wood? what else could it be? the buzzing only occurs while playing in the upper neck areas (5th fret and higher) Any thoughts, i have a dampit, but the RH is 52% , which is almost perfect. ANy thoughts?

Go to The Taylor Guitar Forum. They are experts in Taylor guitars.

You might have been like me, and put on too high guage strings, and it has twisted the neck. You can go to a good repair shop, and they can help straighten it out. Look from the head down to the bridge, and see how straight it is.

P.S. my johnson was free and it actually sounds pretty damn good. A little better than an epiphone if that says anything :?

sorry i didn't answer you. that was pretty shitty of me. yeah sorry.

so, no, not officially. my rates are low (free) and i don't do the hard stuff (fret work, crack repair, neck straightening, bridgework or rerouting) but as for what i have done, i have drilled and installed a number of strap pins (20-30 or so), changed more strings than i care to remember(1000's), drilled and installed 2 undersaddle pickups and one sound hole pickup, put on clear pickguards (3) , truss rod adjustments (10 every season), replacing tuners (3 guitars with new Grover tuners), and a little bit of finish touch up but only on my own guitars for that. and that's about it. frets.com is an awesome resource to get started.

oh and i have cut and fitted compensated saddles and nuts replacements from both bone and tusq. i made a nut from trem nut but it was too short so i sucked up the ten bucks on that one. usually if i don't get it right, i split the costs until we get it right. so usually only about 15 bucks (20 if i screw up and like break the bone or file too short) to have a nut and saddle made instead of 90 for both from guitar tech.

i really enjoy working on guitars and wouldn't imagine charging anyone for such things. i just buy supplies at guitar center and then charge whatever it cost. really if you know what you are doing and have some experience it isn't exceptionally hard.

of course i have gracially accepted about 50 bucks total in "gifts" but that's it.
