Martin Guitars

Unread post by PlayLikeDave » Fri Sep 12, 2003 7:28 am

I guess cuz Dave plays mostly his 914ce, I did not really think about getting a Martin. But I was wondering if it would be a good idea to get a Martin. I can't afford something expensive, but I was wondering if a Martin DM or Martin DXM is a good buy. I would guess that it is better than a Yamaha F310, but I just wanted to know what you all thought. Thanks.

Peace
I love you oh so well, like a kid loves candy and fresh snow.

i dont like low end martins. if you want a low end guitar get an alvarez. its cheaper and most likely better than a low end martin. i like my RD-20S better than the D-15 i played.

My best advice would be to try a search for this topic. Some other advice is to not pay attention to names and just pick up a bunch of guitars in your range and play them. You know you will be happy buying a guitar that sounds good to you, whereas buying a brand name might not sound good to you and can piss u off down the road.

yea. whatever feels great to you. But you have to fall absoultely in love with it. If you're thinking "this is an alright guitar...." drop it and go to the next one. Cause in my experience your love for that certain guitar sometiems may deteriorate if you didnt start out thinking "this is the best guiatr in the world!"

But yea, play eeeeverything!

I don't think it was bestly put right there. You and I pretty much said the same thing. Elliot just likes to copy off people, especially Dave Matthews!! jk

It does seem superficial, and I understand. I used to own a Madeira (Guild's Import brand). But really, aren't Taylors and Martins God's gift to modern acoustic guitars? I have tried out so many guitars: Ovations, Fenders, Yamahas, Epiphones, Washburns, the whole lot of them. I have not ever encountered a sound like a Martin or a Taylor. That is the only reason why I posed the question like that. It is not as if I have not ever played guitar, or a guitar other than a Taylor or Martin.

hush. :P

anyway, everyone always says to just go look for something around your price range, play the hell out of everything in it, and pick up the guitar you keep coming back to. it may take a while to find it, and you may pass over it the first time, but it's there.

Look at a D-15. Solid-body, great sound. Contrary to what shane says. But my best advice:

ignore everything you've read here, go to your local guitar store, and play every guitar you can get your hands on. whichever sounds best to you that you can afford, buy it.

I agree on that one. if you have the money go for the taylor or martin. but again, if you're going for low end....maybe not the best idea. But really, i think there's a reason these artists use the martins and taylors.... Cause they're great guitars!!
