First public performance (If you can call it that)
On Saturday one of my friends had a going off to college party. I had brought my guitar over the night before because her dad wanted to take a look at it and left it there by mistake in the wee hours of the morning. Anyways, towards the end of the party, she and I decided go upstairs for a little bit so that she could escape from some family members. I grabbed my guitar and just started practicing the songs I've been working on, playing some Crash into Me, Grey Street, non-Dave songs I know proficiently. I guess I was playin a little too loudly, because before I knew it there were about 10-15 people crammed in the room and in the doorway listening. I took some requests, Where Are You Going (fingerpicked) and a Hilary Duff cover (please don't ask me why I know it). As I've said many times before, I've only been playing since December and am absolutely no good yet, but the non-guitar playing (I assume) crowd appreciated it. Anyways, I just wanted to share my frightening yet fun experience. It has definately motivated me to practice even more.

Hey man that sounds like it was awesome. It is always 10 times harder for me to play infront of people. I guess it is because I feel more pressure to play well.
Good job keep it up man!

Cool. See I have no problem playing in front of people, it's singing while playing that gets me. I think I've improved quite a bit recently and plan to bring the geetar on the annual college friend camping trip/reunion over Labor Day Weekend. So we'll see if I have the balls to belt some out then...
Go for it Roast!!! That is one of the reasons why I wanted to learn how to play guitar is to just be able to sit around a camp fire and sing and play a bunch of sing along songs!!! One day, one day...
Let us know how that goes!

Its strange. I never really thought of why I wanted to play until I sorta just picked up my dad's old guitar one day. As I continue to play though, I am constantly realizing new reasons why I want to get better.NPR wrote:Go for it Roast!!! its funny... ive always played in front of people even when i was starting out.. it wasnt until it was an organized thing that i started getting nervous... i played in front of 25 people the first time... then i played in front of a 100 people church... and im playing in front of about 60 on wednesday.....kinda nervewrecking.... it doesnt happen when im just messing around in front of people

Yeah man that is one of the reasons why I got into it. I had a few experiences where it was just a bunch of people together and one person knew how to play. So we just sang songs all night like that and it was one of the best nights I have ever had. So that is one of my goals to have nights like that all of the time. It would be just to much fun.

Yeah man I don't think it is because I am nervous just that I try harder when people are watching. So I guess I am not as relaxed and then I F up. Or atleast F ups that I hear but some one else won't really notice.

very cool man...playing for a small group can be real tuff'...
matter of fact, yesterday I played a song I wrote with lyrics and all in 2 sets of services at my church - with about 400 people in the first servie, and about 300 in the second...
then that night I played at a cookout - after dinner, our Christian gettogether had about 17 people in one room for me to lead in praise and worship music...
trust me that the more you play and the more you are - put on the spot - the more it makes you grow...
cool story man, keep up the playin'
