that's a fun argument right there, I'm wholly and completely with smittay on this one, it's interesting the arguments people conjure in their head to defend dave...thoughts?

well...i've read smittay's argument and i dont know what to say...i mean, those who says that he's a GREAT soloist are blind...tim reynolds kicks ass in that role...the guys from the G3 Tour kicks ass too...and i dont agree for the music theory part...with time, you know what sounds right or not when you're jamming...the theory gets you there faster thats all

anyway i appreciate dmb's music as a whole...not because someone is a better musician than the other...

but if i had the choice between dave & tim on who's a great soloist, i would say Tim without a doubt

well everyone dont get angry because that guy is putting dave down, you should ask yourself: am I putting dave too high on the "great guitarist" scale???

I think in many ways it's better that dave isn't a theory nut...his songs aren't put together by numbers but by feel, and that often adds to the effect of things, as for the soloing part, Dave just isn't, that's all their is to it...what I don't get is why people insist he must be...can't we just be realistic and say he's a great songwriter and a rather unique rhythm writer. that's what it comes down to. anything else is just overexaggerating.

I wasn't trying to insinuate anything with my post, while I agree with smittay, I'm not saying I agree with how he said it, I just found the whole discussion interesting

I agree 100%. Why can't people just accept the fact that he's a rhythm guitar player and stop comparing him with the best lead guitarists ever. I mean its quite ridiculous. It's like a vicious circling argument - some Dave nut that doesn't know anything about music, comes on a message board and claims that Dave is the best guitar player ever. Then the next extreme person who knows too much says that Dave sucks shit at lead guitar. then people come to Dave's defense with less than par arguments and then the flaming war begins. I don't know if Dave is one of the greatest rhythm guitarists but he's my favorite.

peace,
Ken

I hear ya, while he's my favorite, I don't think he's the best at all, I hate to bring john mayer into this again, but I do feel john mayer is a better rhythm guitarist than dave, however I like dave better and enjoy his songs more. I think dave is a better rhythm guitarist than eric clapton though...I'm not a big fan of eric's rhythm skills, although overall I think he's my favorite guitarist
