Re: Newbie Question
First off. Welcome to the Boards. The numbers below the tab on this site Indicate which finger you will use on your fret hand to hold this strings down. 1 being your index finger up to 4 being your pinky. Its not very common to find tabs that are so detailed but thats just one of the things that make this site so helpful for beginners. Stick around and post any questions you have. There are alot of people here that will help you a lot.

Thanks...
I understand the numbers on the "strings"...I was referring to the number at the bottom below the bottom string

Re: Newbie Question
Sorry if that wasnt clear enough. As you know the number ON the strings determines which fret you push down on. So say you have this E---------5---7----5--------. That is telling you to place your finger right behind the 5th fret (A note) of the E string, then go to the 7th fret (B note)and back to the 5th (still an A). If there is a 1 BELOW each of the 5's and a 3 BELOW the 7. You will hold down the 5 with your index finger then place your ring finger on the 7th fret B note then use your Index finger to hold the 5th fret down again.
So to sum that up. The numbers on the string indicated where the string is held down on the fret board and the numbers below are telling you which finger to hold those down with. Does that make more sense to you? If not you can look here. http://www.dmbtabs.com/faq.php?id=2&read=3 Once you understand the concept of tabs and get used to reading them it gets pretty easy

Re: Newbie Question
Yeah pretty much. The numbers on the bottom are really for single notes or chords that aren't really standard and might require odd fingerings
