Jimi wrote it, but SRV tears up what Jimi can't...and then adds alot of originality to it...man, I would have loved to have heard what else he would have done RIP SRV
I love the song...reminds me of Yellow Ledbedder by Pearl Jam
while we are on the sunject of Jimi and SRV, I also think Stevie does a better job of Voodoo Chil(e/d)...I still don't know how that man played with HEAVY gauge guitar strings...

thats the only way to play it man, he wouldn't have sounded so awesome without those heavy ass strings (i like using them too... 11 gauge flatwounds all the way!)
i like his voodoo chile better too, but what jimi lacked (ripping like SRV) he made up for it with his virtuosity as a songwriter.
how "bold as love" too, i love that freakin song just as much (and the whole "axis" album)

yeh JIMI!! I love Little Wing, I also like the version Clapton did. Castles in the Sand is also a great song by Hendrix.

haha, I as well. I've tried a few times. It's just hard to keep up with. I am sure with more pracitice I could nail it, but for now I'll take something easier.

are you sure Stevie used 11's?? it sounds like he's using 13's, cause I use 11's on my Fender and it sounds wayyyy tinnier than SRV....

I agree SRV's version of Little wing is better (because he made it so much more melodic, blusier and then added that element htat nobody BUT SRV can add to a song).
but no way is anybody's version of voodoo chile anywhere close to what Hendrix did... Nobody mastered the Wah effect to the extent Jimi did, and that's where the song gets it's feeling from...

if you are almost exclusively playing blues/jazz, definitely do it....
you won't regret it.. it might force a bit of a transition period (in terms of getting used to playing strings almost as big as ones you ahve on an acoustic)..
but the tone is just so much better....

i agree, i've been playing 11's for a while now which really isn't that tough normally, but i play flatwounds. i think they sound better and fingersqueek is reduced tremendously, but bending is a little tougher...
when i started using them i had to get a new bridge on my tele because the action was naturally raised from the heavier gauge (my old bridge wouldn't lower b/c the screws were rusted and the wouldn't turn!)

I love the way Ben plays it.
like SRV, he takse what Hendrix did and puts his own elements (namely, the fact he plays it w/a distorted/wah'ed lapslide)..
but I still like Hendrix's version better.
