When I play slide in normal tuning, I usually stick to the 'A shape' up the neck, for example, if you want to play riffs in C, use this voicing x3555(3) as your home base for lack of a better word. the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th strings create a major triad with the root on the 3rd string when barred straight across, which is useful to know when you're using a slide. i'll try to post some tabs of some basic riffs tomorrow maybe, im about to walk out the door now...hope that gets you started though.

Check out the old bluesmen for some easy cool sounding slide licks. You can usually find blues compilations for pretty cheap these days with the classic guys like Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Robert Johnson, Son House, etc. etc. Duane Allman was one helluva slide guitarist, too - Check out At Fillmore East by the Allman Brothers Band (insane live album).

Add Elmore James to that list. Probably the best slide player out of all the old bluesmen.

Sonny Landreth is really good. Eric Clapton called him "probably the most underestimated musician on the planet".

glass has the best, IMO, but then again it's all what kind of sound you want they all sound a bit different.

I have a brass one and I like it but I think glass is the way to go. The brass is really bright sounding whereas glass it a little bit warmer. I've been wanting to pick up a glass slide for awhile now but never seem to get around to it. Slide is a lot of fun once you start to develop your touch and feel for it.

Tony Tyler is a great slide guitarist, and i've seen derek trucks play it as well. Its not as easy as it looks. I suck at it. I haven't really tried since everytime i do it sounds like a dying animal.

I want to work on slide so bad. It looks much easier then it is. I'm going to do some research. My brother has a nice glass slide.
