Help with another setlist...

This is the place to talk about guitar playing not done by Dave! Topics about techniques, styles, theory, and other guitarists go here.

Help with another setlist...

Unread post by mangold » Sat Feb 03, 2007 7:47 pm

So my "gig" at the coffeehouse went well enough that another school recruited me to play at their coffeehouse as well. This time I'm doing an acoustic set though, not full band. This gives me much greater control over the setlist, so once again I call on dmbtabs

its me and a friend of mine. we are both decent players and we both sing, so I'm hoping to do some cool things with harmonizing etc.

here is what we have so far:

Neon - John Mayer
AATW - Dave style with the chorus and intro from stairway thrown in there
Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve
SMTS - Dave
Talk Shows on Mute - Incubus
In the End - Linkin Park (this is pretty sexy with dual vocals)
Mr. Brigtside - The Killers (a repeat from my last show, but this will be different acoustic)
Brian Wilson - Barenaked Ladies
Drive - Incubus
Hey Ya - OutKast

we had a few other songs we tried, like High & Dry (Radiohead) and Motorcycle Drive By (Third Eye Blind), but the just didnt work out vocally.

Ideas, opinions, comments?

Thanks for the responses guys...

Pizz, i would LOVE to do Mr. Jones, that song is my fucking boo, unfortunately I cannot sing the mofo, try as I might. I havent heard interstate love song, atleast i dont think. I'm not too familiar with stone temple pilots...

Here is gone is a good one, we'll give it a shot.

Slide is way too overdone imo, we're gonna shy away from it

John, you say that like alot of people cover hey ya, i dont know about you but i had never heard anyone do it until I saw it on youtube. I thought it was a more interesting one to cover.

and i forgot that we are DEFINITELY doing under the bridge (RHCP)

Don't cover Hey Ya. I like Pizzle's STP suggestion.

Check out a few Dispatch tunes. Don't do the General though cause that's played out. Try Flying Horses or Prince of Spades.

find an acoustic version of In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel, learn it, and put it in your set list

Good choice, and it'll take you two minutes to learn.
