right arm pain

Unread post by Grachi » Sun Nov 19, 2006 12:23 am

i've been getting a pain in my right arm, right about where the guitar makes contact with the arm. I noticed it a bit ago and i thought maybe i put my arm down too hard on it one day and thats why its been doin that, but its been 2 or 3 weeks now with no change. I strum with my right arm, and the edge of the guitar is hitting me about 2 3/4 to 3 inches above my elbow on my forearm. So basically take your arm, turn it so your palm is facing you, then go up a few inches and a bit to the left so your inbetween the back and the side, and thats where it hits.

Is this wrong positioning or...

I'm worried that the guitar i just got (taylor 214) is causing this because the body is thinner then my old dreadnaught. Thing is, because the body change my left arm feels a lot better, but now this is happening with my right... I don't think it's the case though because i took my old dreadnaught and realized the guitar hits my right arm in about the same place, and up to a half inch up the arm more even. I dunno any advice would be greatly appreciated.

your probably putting too much pressure on brachial artery, cutting off the blood flow to the rest of your arm. Ive had that problem before too it hurts like a bitch, you just have to make an adjustment. What i found is that the worse my posture was, the more pressure i was putting down on my arm. So whenever i get that pain i just sit up straighter and the pain goes away, hope that helps

yea it's a nasty on and off, throbbing sort of pain... You know, now that you mention the posture, when i play standing up it doesn't hurt/ come into contact with my arm as much either. So I think i'll try adapting that when im sitting down too see if that helps. thanks for the help

EDIT: I found that moving my arm back more so my elbow is basically at the corner of the guitar has also helped. the side of the guitar is resting more on my bicep and the edge where top and side meet is closer to the bend in the elbow, so it sort of "fits". It makes the distance a bit longer for my fretting hand, but not by much, and a lift of the neck up in the air a bit more past being parallel with the ground helps the left hand too. But my right arm is feeling alot better today. it isnt sore and throbbing after an hour of playing doing it this way as it was before.
