theres the taylor 110 which ive heard is pretty nice for the price. theres also ovations which i think are nice. stay away from ibanez and fender. stay away from the low end martins too. i think the 110 or the ovation would be your best bet.

Gotta disagree with Shane on Ovations. I think they suck the high hard one. They are made of plastic for gods sake. Might be pretty, but they sound hollow to me.

As I've said before, I will always suggest the Takamine G-240 for all beginners. Sounds great for the price.

oh yeah i forgot about taks. anyway, theres some ovations that are great. there are some that seriously do suck though. i have a friend who got an ovation for Christmas and he doesnt know that grand concert style bodies are for fingerstyle not strumming and it just sounds horrible. however i have a couple friends whos ovations sound great. it really just depends on the guitar.

No Ovations

Unread post by CPTino3001 » Thu May 29, 2003 7:08 pm

I'de definitely have to agree about the lower end ovations sucking the big one. I'de go with a Takamine. Might have to get a Jasmine for $400 but I'de say that'd be your best bet.

I don't have any first-hand experience with Taks, but certainly have heard nothing but good things about them for beginners. Also, I disagree with shane on Ibanez's, I have a couple friends that have them and they are great.

My Tak EG 240 only set me back 200 clams, so they are affordable.

with $400, id go used. i got my first guitar, a charvel acoustic/electric, for $300, and it sounds great. the ovations are garbage, and ibanez and takamine arent much better. if youve gotta get a new one tho, i guess ibanez is the best. the main thing you wanna look for in an acoustic is solid wood. you dont want laminates. but thats gonna be hard to find in your price range. good luck tho.
fornit some fornus
