John Mayer - Man on the Side

Unread post by Buck23 » Thu May 22, 2003 9:13 pm

I have a couple questions about this song, I was hoping someone could help me out...does John Mayer use a pick on this song? also, theres a chord in the verse, I think its x4745x...does he bar the 4th fret, or use his thumb on the a string? and for the 645 chord that starts the verse, does he finger it as shown, or does he bar it like a minor7 chord and only hit the three strings? any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated :D

I just figured out this song a couple of weeks ago, fun as hell to play. Check out the Dvd Any Given Thursday, if you don't have it, I just looked at it and for the first part its finger picked but when it picks up at the 2nd chours he has this ablity (that I can't do) in which he holds his pick in his palm and is able to finger pick and then quickly whip out the pick and then strums for the rest of the song.
As for the chord in the verse yes he (as well as me) bars the 4th fret, and for the starting chord he plays all 4 notes 0x645x. Did you get you TAB from http://www3.sympatico.ca/g403z/txt/mots.txt ?

Hope this helps!

Its just as good as any Dave Matthews DVD in terms of focusing on the guitar, but since he solos theres alot more guitar in there as opposed to a sax and a volin. I think its great but thats just me, I know there are a lot Mayer haters here so I'll leave it at that :D
