simple problem..

Unread post by Dancing Ants » Thu May 22, 2003 6:55 pm

..i'm sorta new at guitar (6 months), and I can't get a nice clean upstroke. I use a pick 95% of the time, and it just doesn't give me a good upstroke, and my guitar doesn't play loud enough without using a pick. any suggestions?

First of all, I don't really understand ur problem, but ill do the best I can

Is the problem that you cant get enough power to pull an upstroke without having the pick fly out of ur hand? If so then I have 2 things of advice for u, 1) try using a different pick size( medium, or large, never use the Lights) 2) practice practice practice and one day u just might get it.

Of course those answers probably made no sense at all, but give us some details of whats goin on and we can help

okay...whenever i go for an upstroke, i can do it, but it isn't a smooth sound...it kinda of drags on the strings as it's coming up. i don't really know how to explain it any more than that....i'll practice alot, though. ;)

Oh yeah, for that all you can do practice more to get ur hand stronger, and perhaps you might want to fool around with the angle that you hold ur pick :P just an Idea

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

a good practice for upstrokes (and muting for that matter) is ska and/or reggae music. mute the downstrokes, play the upstrokes.
