Ive got the Boss and I like it, but I would deffinately go with the JamMan. Theyre basically the same, but the jamman is much more versatile. Its got more space, expandable space on top of that, and I think youll be happier with it than the boss. Keep in mind if you want to do howie day stuff that the neither of these have built in delay or a half speed option. When it says you can change the tempo, thats after you have saved a loop, which requires stopping the loop. Ive used both, and in my opinion either would be great, but stick with the jamman.

Instead of the Digitech Jamman, check out the Lexicon Jamman, much better IMO

I agree. Not cheap though. I wish I had that kind of money for music equipment.

The Line 6 Dl-4, the green one, is the only way I know of to do Howie stuff. It currently runs for 249. Ebay for cheaper. There are a few threads around with information about it or you can look here: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=150380.
I havent used one of those as on the floor, as it was attached to a display at guitar center and couldnt be opperated by foot. I have heard the buttons on those are not the best though.

Yeah I have been wanting to do Howie Day style stuff. I was considering the JamMan but the Boss got much better reviews and I heard the Jamman has a corrupt file problem when you try to overdub and texture songs or licks, that is probably the only thing that is keeping me away from it right now. I tried the Jamman and I loved it but I was going to hold off a bit, I have not tried the Boss yet. What does Howie Day use? and are their others than the Line6 mentioned? Is Line6 a good brand? I know only a small amount about their guitars. I just looked at the Line 6. It actually seems pretty nice but there are only like 28 seconds of looping time. Wouldnt it be more efficient and safe to have more time? Like on the Jamman or Boss for example.

Howie uses the DL-4. I havent owned any line 6 equipment, so I cant speak for things like durability other than what Ive read on musicansfriend reviews. Other than those three pedals theres the Gibson Echoplex, the Lexicon JamMan, (both of which are expensive and hard to come by) and the Boomarang. From what Ive found the Boomarang runs for 430, the echoplex for 1000, and the Lexicon jamman has been discontinued I think. I havent used any of these last three. I believe the boomarang has built in delay and im positive it has decay settings, which the line 6 also has. This makes the layers begin to fade after a certin number of plays. Im not sure how the speed functions are, i.e. half speed etc. It looks pretty neat. Im far too long winded and its late. As for having more time, 28 seconds is alot, probally more than youd think. The boomarang looks to have 4 minutes. Thats a new one though not the original. I looked into alot of loop pedals before I bought mine.

Cant I just buy another pedal that does that stuff? I know its more money but if its crucial that i decide i want that I can buy seperate pedals to hook up to it correct?

I've got a Line6 DL-4 and have had it for almost 3 years. If you're worried about quality, I can tell you that the DL-4 is tough as hell. I've never had a problem with it. And it's definitely easy to use and versatile. Keep in mind that it not only is a looping pedal, but a highly versatile delay pedal that produces the effects of a bunch of classic delay pedals (...or something; I just use the Howie Day stuff). Also, I don't know if this has been mentioned, but there is also a looping pedal called the Boomerang which is much like the DL-4, but you can interchange between two loops. So, just some things to keep in mind.

The cheapest option is to do the DL-4. Thats the only way I know of to do half speed on the fly, which you need for beams of light. Other than that you could buy a boss or jamman and a delay pedal, but that really increases the price.
