For the song Hazey Jane II, the tuning of the guiitar is (starting with low E)
CGCFCE
My question is, do you think tuning the B string up to a C will most likey break it? Thanks a ton for any input.

I hate the b string, easily my least favorite, sounds like shit open and is the only one that ever breaks on me. I know that doesnt really answer your problem but I just felt like getting that out there.

Sorry to get off subject but, do any of you use the 12th fret harmonic to tune? For me this usually gives better resonance and I can tune a string quicker. Just curious if others do the same.

If you don't know how to play a harmonic see the link below? The natural harmonics on a guitar occur on the 5-7-12 frets, this is due the the distance between the bridge and nut. The mentioned frets are where the distance betwen the bridge and nut are evenly diveded, i.e the distance is divided in half at the 12th fret (i think, this is from memory cause i'm at work), the 7th fret in 3rds the 5th in quarters etc... Playing the 12th fret harmonic should render the same tone as playing the sting open. This is helpful in tunning because the sound tends to resonate a little longer and not vary in frequency as much, giving you a longer sustained tone. Hope this tip helps.

sorry about that man my original question came out sounding retorichal. So i re-typed it but typo'd the? Didn't mean to sound like a smart ass. In short, play the 12th fret harmonic of the string you're trying to tune and the tuner needle or led shouldn't bounce around as much.

i gave a quick physics lesson on this a few threads ago.
http://www.dmbtabs.com/boards/viewtopic ... 04&start=6
if you pluck near the middle this works wonders for any tuner. and if you pluck near the middle and then lightly touch around that 12th fret even a retard could tune a guitar. (sorry to any retards on the board. i didn't mean to offend)
you can experiment too. pluck at 12 and harmonic at 5th, etc...
