Fellow Respected Musicians...
Whats everybody heres opinion on Jason Mraz and his playing. I downloaded a free download off itunes the other day and was impressed by 'did you get my message'. We don't hear much of him here in Aus. Was just wondering what the generall attitude towards his music is over in the states, like is he a total pop suckup or does he actually write some good music?
Evey Hammond: Who--who are you?
V: Who? Who is but the form following the function of what... and what I am is a man in a mask.
Evey Hammond: I can see that.
V: Of course you can. I'm not questioning your powers of observation, I'm merely remarking on the paradox of asking a masked man who he is.

My own opinion of him is that when he first came onto the scene I thought he was great. Very impressive writing ability and decent guitar acoutic guitar skills. As i listened to him more and more I found his music to be a bit annoying. Too wordy. I'd put his guitar skills on the same level as Jack Johnson. Both great to listen to, but not going to win any awards for complexity anytime soon. Just my opinion though...

Jason Mraz is a better player than Jack Johnson, and not too dissimilar from Dave Matthews' playing on a whole. Mraz's appeal comes really from his singing. He does write good songs. If you want to be impressed, check out "Unfold." He does get wordy sometimes, but that's a little bit of his style. On that you have to make your own decision.

Yah I agree...He's not bad to listen to for an hour or so..very wordy though. I do love the song "You and I' and "Unfold". I bought his CD to support him, he deserves it.6_strings_for_life wrote:I think that some of his solo stuff is great, it is a bit wordy and can get on your nerves. But I think he has alot of talent. With the whole band I think he has that bublegum john mayer vibe..

i think hes a very talented guy that makes great music.
however his second cd was way too sexual for me. thats what you write about when youre uncreative and have a block.
I LOVE his live acoustic stuff with Toca

I would love to check out this show if someone could put it up or point me somewhere to get it. Thanks
