Jazz/Rock experts

Unread post by matonfan101 » Thu Feb 16, 2006 2:11 am

Hi all,
for a school production we're doing like a jazz theme (i didn't choose it) and I need to find some music, but all the jazz music I can find is pretty old and not really suitable.

Just wondering if anybody knows of any good Jazz artists/guitarists(thats what i'll be playing) that would be suitable for live play. I would prefer some contempary jazz/rock/funk, but I just can't seem to find anything. I'm also interested for my own playing and listening...i'de be gratefull if u could help me out.

V: Who? Who is but the form following the function of what... and what I am is a man in a mask.
Evey Hammond: I can see that.
V: Of course you can. I'm not questioning your powers of observation, I'm merely remarking on the paradox of asking a masked man who he is.

Here's a couple of really good modern jazz artists:

Joshua Redman
Kurt Rosenwinkel
Charlie Hunter Trio
Garage a Trois
Brad Mehldau

I totally forgot about Joshua Redman. I saw him at Bonnaroo '04 and he was amazing.

But seriously, weather report is the pinnacle of jazz-rock fusion as far as any jazz artists are concerned

He is incredible. He rivals Coltrane as my favorite Jazz artist.

bill frisell, man.
Sometimes when I reflect on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. I think, "It is better to drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver.

kyle eastwood, will bernard, vinyl - heard them on XM (72-beyond jazz is like a jazz-fusion type station with stuff like weather report, joshua redman, john scofield).

that reminds me: john scofield, maceo parker, niacin, cal tjader, incognito

Bill Nershi has this amazing ability to make the acoustic guitar soooooo jazzy. And Michael Kang, I dont know what the fuck he does with that mandolin, but it is the epitomy of cool. Seriously, give it a shot. I'll lupload some songs if you want.
