Has this ever happened to you?

I was just trying to work on my own song, and I came up with this basic G, C, A, D chord progression. So after a few minutes of playing it, I realized that it is the same chords from that Puddle of Mud song "She Hates Me." Have you ever came up with something and feel proud of it, and find out it's already taken?!?!?

that kinda crap happens to me all the time. i like to play these little riffs i "came up with" all the time for my brothers when we all get together. occasionally they will say "i recognize taht one but i forget what its called" then i say "i made it up" but its too late, they already think im playing someone elses song. ofcoarse sometimes ill play some well known thing and claim it as my own and theyll believe me so you never know w/ them.

I came up with something almost identical to Aerosmith's Walk this Way but in a different key. Pissed me off when I realized what it was.

remebered one specifically. it was a little ditty taht was close to #40 (but totally different in my opinion). they thought i was playing that so i changed it up a bit. frustrating as hades.

My roommate and I actually did that exact same thing with the she fuckin hates me song, but we did the chorus. Heh. When you're working with open/barre chords, your song is almost always going to sound like something else. The key is a good strum pattern and more importantly MELODY. Melody is probably the most important part of a song. I mean, really, it is what everyone knows when they think of a song.

happens all of the time...but it seems to happen to me with the strabgest songs...

...don't worry about it too much, if you get the right melody going you are still in the clear
