help on my new guitar
help on my new guitar
So ive been playin for about 4 years on the same old yamaha. And i thought it was time for a new guitar, i have roughly 1000 dollars to spend. So i was thinking maybe a Taylor 214-E or a Breedlove Atlas Series AC25/SR. But i dont want to jump into something like this without getting some thoughts about those 2 guitars, or maybe a suggestion on a differant guitar.
thanks,
~joe~

I'm kinda in the same boat as you on this one. I'm really ready for my next guitar. I've been playing on a Takamine for roughly 10 years now and am looking for a change. The Takamine series is an excellent line and I have had nothing but compliments on mine.
I walked into the music store the other day and was checking out "Low-End" Martins between 700-800 dollars. I was actually disappointed with the sound of all three guitars (actually all three had minor defects)and then i looked up and there was the D-35 for $1900.00. I'm going to put a little more cash together and get the guitar I really want which is the D-35 because i don't want to settle for a guitar I may be playing on for another 10 years. I don't know if this helps you at all, but my suggestion would be not to settle for something that you may regret in the future because I almost did. Take your time and get what you really want even if you have to postpone it for a little while.
Martin/Takamine are the two guitar lines I really have come to like alot.

Not a bad axe for money.
You'll notice that when you buy an acoustic guitar the two things that come into play are tone and price.
Playability can be accomodated by careful luthier setup but tone and price are up to the wood and the wind, you know.
Play what you are considering. Look for solid wood top and sides and then concentrate on sound overall.
Good luck.
I'm a Martin player and LOVE Martin's tone. That's just me of course.

i own two martins and three taylors..nd honestly, wen i first payed the martin, i hated it...the sound was really low, and im more of a , i wana hear the richness of the chord guy..so i went to sam ash, and i spoke to a guitar tech, and customized the woods and pretty much the whole guitar...taylors are alott better if u want a high rich sound...wenever i get a new guitar, i sit and play it for a couple of hours and say, "is this guitar me"? if its not, or not up to ur prefrences, try a new one...
I own a Breedlove AD25/SM, picked it up at an Elderly guitars. Check the site out if you haven't heard of them, they must be one of the best guitar vendors around http://www.Elderly.com. Anyway, I'm not sure what the difference between an SM and SR are, but if it's not much I'll give you my impressions. The guitar is kind of oddly sized, I feel that it's a tad too large for me, but it's not a jumbo or anything so I can't handle. Mine has a cutaway, and pre-installed Fishman Classic 4 pick-ups. Also, there are no bridge pins, instead there are just 6 holes where you insert the strings at the bottom of the bridge and the bulb of the string is held in place since it's too big to pass through the hole. It's makes the appearance much cleaner and sharper. The sound and playabilty are both wonderful on this guitar, and I'd recommend it, but I think you should be able to do better than this with a grand. I bought mine for $500 on sort of a double sale, also Elderly already sells their guitars quite cheap. You can even bargain with the vendor and he'll call the manager to see if he'll drop it even more.
