pick trouble...

Unread post by ros41 » Sun Jul 31, 2005 10:51 pm

I have so much trouble holding on to the pick when i'm playing.
I can't get through a full song without it sliding around where it eventually feels like I'm going to drop it. I realize that i'm holding loosely but when I try to grip it tighter my strumming suffers.

anyone else experience this?

its pretty normal when starting out

just keep practicing, it'll come naturally, and you'll find a happy medium between limp wrist and carpal tunnel

maybe get a pick with some little grippers on it...or wet your fingers?

are you using a slick/glossy pick? if so, either get picks with a rough surface, or try punching a hole in the middle of the pick to give you more control over it

I was wondering how everyone holds their pick. Do you hold it between the tip of your thumb and tip of your finger or more between the meatier part of your thumb and side of your finger?

Thanks
Erik

When first started I had the same problem...I am not sure when, but I must have figured it out somewhere along the way because the problem seems to have cured it's self.

I use these picks with a hole in them

sometimes when i pick i get a weird metalic sound (sounds like someone trying to play slide but sucks)...is it cause the picks edge gets frayed?

a real good trick to keep a pick in your hands that i discovered out of shear luck one night is to just bite the end of it. you'll get a couple teeth marks, and a real good textured side for you to grip. it works well.
hosting the oscars is like winning the heisman trophy. no matter how you do in the ballgame, or whatever, they can't take it away from you. and even if you kill your wife and an ex-waiter, they still have a hard time taking it away from you
