Fingering for this intro

Unread post by TheGuyThatJaneLikes » Fri Jun 03, 2005 5:57 pm

Code: Select all

          pause C slide to D
E------0---------x--------------0-------x---------------0--
B------1---------1------7-------1-------1--------7------1-
G------2---------0------7-------2-------0--------7------2-
D----2---------2------7------2--------2-------7-------2---
A--0--------3------/5------0--------3------/5--------0----
E------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe I'm missing something obvious here, but I can't seem to get the 3/5 on the A right. I always end up sliding with my third finger, which makes it impossible to play the D7 -> B7 G7 part which immediately follows it.

Any help?

For the record, it's the intro to Cash's cover of "Hurt".

Thanks.

Weird. What's your fingering like for the first 2 chords (leading up to the slide)?

Mine is (fingers is parenthesis):

Code: Select all

E------0------------x-------
B------1-(1)-------1-(1)
G------2-(2)-------0-----
D----2--(3)--------2-(2)---
A--0--------3-(3)--------
E--------------------------

OK, well then I've been doing it right up until that point. But I figured that whatever finger was left on the A string is the one that I slide with, in this case, the ring (3rd). So in that case, how are you getting your index back up there in time, replacing the ring finger on the A, 3rd fret?

start your index on the second fret on a so you have some overlap time... i cant really explain it

Nah, I've outgrown the stage of laughing at poo-poo and wee-wee jokes, otherwise this title would have intentionally had a double meaning.

And no, I didn't edit it. What made you think that?

I have no idea, just comfort. Why, how would you do it?

I've always been doing it my way, but now that you mention, that's much more comfortable. I'm such an idiot. ;)

Stupid Question: Where do the C and E come from? I obviously lack any knowledge of actual music theory.

well that's just the notes that you fret in the chord. technically, it's middle finger on the d string, ring finger on the a string, and index on the b string.
