Neon by John Mayer

Unread post by cobaltblue » Mon May 23, 2005 5:30 pm

I know SOOO many questions have been asked about this song, but I have now succesfully learnt this the wrong way, and am confused about what John is exactly doing during this song. If anyone could answer these questions for me I would be most grateful:

1) What is the rhythm of the hitting on the wood part of the guitar? And how is he exactly hitting it?

2) I am confused as to what the thumb is doing as well. The way I play it now, the thumb stays on the 6th string where it does the tapping, but even when I try to approximate the wood tapping it feels like I should move it.

That should be about it. On the first question, a recording with really loud hits would be most helpful but ill take whatever I can get. Thank you in advance to anyone who can take the time to help me.

EDIT: This is for the Inside Wants Out version.

No, this is a video someone made of themselves, with the camera focused directly on his hands, slowed down at times, it would help a lot but I still dont have the desire to sit down and try to learn it because its damn hard and dont care that much.
