ive realized that too dude. earlier i realized most of my guitar playing has emphasized rhythm, and i havent been doing much for lead. i started learning some parts of master of puppets (metallica just in case you didnt know) and i think its making me somewhat faster. most of my speed has come from playing satellite faster than ive heard dave play it. thats pretty much the only song i really have good speed on. anyway, my guess is the only way to get in faster is to go play songs that are faster than you, and eventually youll get it. i know im not nearly as good as you are, but maybe experience isnt needed for this one.

Playing Faster

A great way to play faster is to learn a few flatpicking tunes. Might not be your favorite music but it will increase your pick speed tremendously.

Careful, though, there is a difference between playing faster and missing or skipping notes.

Haha yeah. After I typed that I was like, "Did I spell that right? I don't think I did, oh well." My spelling is usually top-notch though.

I have an article from Acoustic Guitar Magazine that really helped me out. It is a series of finger/scale exercises that is designed to make your fingers independent of each other...that is to easily fret from one finger to any other finger...if you understand what I mean. With that you can pick up speed.

I'll copy it at work tomorrow and email you a pdf file of it.
