I was wondering if there were any left handed players out there? I am, and its a real pain sometime when you can't just pick up any guitar and play. It really sucks in music stores too. Anyone know of famous left handed guitarists, besides hendrix and cobain?

I'm a lefty and it is a pain to not be able to pick up any guitar and play it but it also means I don't have to deal with a bunch of knuckle heads wanting to show me this "awesome" thing they know on guitar.

Paul McCartney, Tony Iommi, Albert King and Dick Dale are some other lefty guitar players.

I am left handed but play right handed. I would suggest if you guys havent been playing for long that you go right handed cause its not any harder.

You can go into music stores and play any guitar they have there. You can play others guitars. Its just a lot less irritating if you learn right handed. But whatever floats your boat.

If you have been playing for a while then stick with lefty cause it will irritate you how long it will take to build the muscles on the other hand.

I'm left handed but play right handed no problem.

When you think about it, using your left hand for fretting is better because your left hand is naturally more dexterious. (when you're left handed)

Although it doesn't feel as natural at first, its pretty much the way to go IMO.

*edit

Although you could be like that one chick who taught herself to play the guitar upsidedown left handed. Now that'd be a kicker. Anyone know who that was btw?

Hendrix restrung it so the strings were in the right order.

just to clear things up, no one can play the guitar well with the strings backwards. in other words, with the high E closest to you. yeah you can play notes, but you cant play chords like that it just doest work. anyone youve heard of, like jimi, turned a right handed around and restrung it

Found this on the boards
http://www.dmbtabs.com/boards/viewtopic ... lay+upside

"Some left-handed guitarists play right-handed guitars without restring so the bottom string is nearest the ground such as deceased blueswoman Elizabeth Cotten and up-and-coming blues rocker Eric Gales. Gales picked up this way of playing from his brother, guitarist Manuel Gales (aka Little Jimmy King), a former member of Albert King's band and now a solo artist. Eric Gales other brother Eugene, who plays bass in the Eric Gales Band, also plays a right handed bass left-handed and without restringing. Session guitarist Guy Isidore's favourite guitar is a right-handed Strat which he plays left-handed - his credits include Marc Bolan, Phil Lynott, Peter Green, and more recently Seal. "
